Why Solar Warranties Matter

A solar system is a long-term investment. If a panel, inverter or battery fails, the warranty may help cover a repair, replacement or other remedy, depending on the product's written terms.

However, not every warranty covers every problem. Product faults, panel performance, installation workmanship and transport costs may be handled under different terms.

When buying from a solar supply shop in Uganda, ask for the applicable warranty documents and keep them safely.

Three Types of Solar Warranties

Read the actual warranty document because coverage varies by manufacturer, product model, seller and installation arrangement.

Solar panels exposed to sunlight

1. Product Warranty

Covers specified manufacturing defects or product faults within the stated period, subject to the manufacturer's terms and exclusions.

Renewable energy installation and electrical infrastructure

2. Performance Warranty

For solar panels, this commonly specifies a minimum expected power output at certain points in time. It is different from a warranty against all product faults.

Electrical power equipment and energy infrastructure

3. Installation Workmanship

Applies to specified installation work, such as wiring, mounting or connections, where the installer offers a separate workmanship warranty.

Warranty Considerations for Different Solar Products

The examples below are general market references, not promises about any particular BF Solar product or a legal minimum in Uganda.

Product What to check Important question
Solar panels Product defects, performance guarantee and claim conditions Does the document cover physical defects as well as output?
Inverters Fault coverage, operating conditions and service process Who handles diagnosis, repair or replacement?
Lithium batteries Warranty period, cycle or energy-throughput limits, and usage rules Are there charging, temperature or inverter compatibility requirements?
Lead-acid batteries Warranty conditions, maintenance and charging requirements What happens if the battery is deeply discharged or poorly maintained?
Solar lights Battery, light, controller and panel coverage Does the warranty cover the whole unit or only selected parts?
Installation Workmanship period and scope of installation responsibility Is labour included if an installation fault needs correcting?
Important: Never rely on a general warranty duration alone. Confirm the warranty for the exact brand and model you intend to buy, including whether labour, transport and replacement costs are included.

What May Not Be Covered?

Warranty exclusions differ between products. Depending on the written terms, a claim may be rejected if the failure results from circumstances such as:

  • Incorrect installation or wiring.
  • Using an incompatible inverter, charger or battery setup.
  • Operating equipment outside the specified conditions.
  • Unauthorized repairs or modifications.
  • Physical damage, flooding, fire or other excluded events.
  • Failure to follow specified charging or maintenance instructions.
  • Missing proof of purchase or required product identification.

These are examples, not universal exclusions. Check the wording supplied with your particular product.

How to Make a Solar Warranty Claim

Follow the seller's and manufacturer's stated process. These general steps can help you prepare the information they may request.

Stop unsafe operation

If there is smoke, burning smell, overheating, exposed wiring or another safety concern, keep clear and seek qualified help. Do not open or repair electrical equipment yourself.

Gather the records

Find your receipt, product model, serial number, installation details and warranty document.

Describe the fault

Record when the problem started, any warning messages and relevant photos, provided collecting them is safe.

Contact the seller or manufacturer

Ask how to submit the claim and whether inspection or authorization is required before repairs or replacement.

Common questions

Solar Warranty FAQs in Uganda

Does a 25-year solar panel warranty cover every fault?

Not necessarily. A long performance warranty may address specified power output over time, while manufacturing defects are covered by separate product terms. Check both documents.

Do solar batteries and inverters have the same warranty?

No. Terms vary by manufacturer, model and product type. Battery warranties may include conditions about use, charging, cycles or energy throughput.

Does a product warranty cover installation costs?

Not automatically. Confirm whether labour, removal, transport, reinstallation and diagnosis are included or treated separately.

What should bulk buyers check before ordering?

Confirm exact models, written warranty terms, serial-number records, claim procedures, after-sales arrangements and whether the same conditions apply to the full order.
